Flies like us

Inkwell
Apr 12, 2024

Humankind be flies like us,
We eat, excrete, we multiply,

We interpose in silent rooms,
Trapped in space by windowpanes,
Our fretful lives a stumbling buzz,
Obscured by faded curtain veils.

What world awaits this hapless form?
As fragile as these rainbowed wings.
kaleidoscopes in fractured eyes,
and bodies made of chitin fins.

Astride this world,
Malign colossus,
Await our turn,
Our vile proboscis.
